Revolutionizing vehicle development using digital twins

Digitization is key in the development cycle of automotive systems and components, be it the digitization of data and environment for effective tuning of AI and ML models or creation of digital twin systems for HIL or the digitization of the material development and manufacturing process. Digitization is imperative for the front loading of critical development and validation activities in the development cycle using simulation. These technology areas serve as enablers for connected, safe and sustainable vehicular platforms. Simulation is able to create an experimentation on a valid digital representation of any system. The process avoids the creation of scale copy and is rather modeled at a digital level on a computer using algorithms and equations. It offers engineers the ability to create dynamic environments that are analyzed in computer models. The use of simulation models in businesses can be very diverse but they are often used to conduct testing and validation of vehicle models early in the prototyping stages to save on cost and time. The digital twin will be useful in the entire vehicle lifecycle in terms of conceptualization, production, development, maintenance, testing and validation and entire lifecycle management. ARAI has set up a Digital Twin Lab as a common engineering facility center with the support of the Ministry of Heavy Industry, which has tools, infrastructure, engineering domain experts, use cases and demonstrators of digital twinning.
